While bread may be the “staff of life” easy cake recipes certainly add a little joy along the way.

What better for any celebration than a well-baked and decorated cake.

I’m not talking about big occasions here as in weddings, funerals or barmitzvas.

Personally I have never needed a particularly good, or indeed any reason at all to start baking, and of course eating these delicious, frivolous and sometimes downright decedent creations.

Getting up in the morning has always seemed enough of a reason to me.

Baking , far from being serious cooking has always seemed to me to be more of a fun thing.

By that I don’t mean that the craft and ingredients of baking are not important, or should not themselves be taken seriously, just that I think that baking is good fun.

You just have to look at a few easy cake recipes for Christmas to see what I mean, fun cake designs are what I feel baking is all about, and some decorating and design ideas can border on the truly bizarre, certainly with some of the Halloween creations I have seen.

Although some designs often fun, some, such as designs for weddings require a high degree of expertise.

Indeed some photos of perfect wedding cakes look more like sculpture than cookery,the decorating and design can seem more like art than craft.

Indeed there could be a gallery of exotic wedding cakes.

At least they make some Halloween efforts seem simple by comparison.

Also some Christmas cake party designs can be very complex, I remember being up past two o’clock in the moring one christmas making little green frosting trees and differant colored present presents with contrasting ribbons all made of frosting,a pile on each one for a party consisting of forty tables.

But what of simple homely easy cake recipes the old fashioned pound cake, the angel food , the Victoria sponge, the ginger bread ,fruit, carrot, these are, in my opinion the best of all.

One very interesting chocolate sponge recipe I came across was styled. “the no 1chocolate sponge recipe in the world” . Now I haven’t tried them all, but if he wants some help with his research I’m willing to give it a go!

For all the finery of some highly decorated and technically challenging creations, what could beat sitting by the fire on a cold winters night with a hot drink and a good slice of the best fruitcakes money can buy – a home made one.

The best gingerbread recipes, chocolate recipes, carrot, mixed fruit recipes, pound and all min one recipes and especially for the more nervous cook, bought mix recipes are simple and uncomplicated again good ingredients and a little care is all that you need.

Some Christmas recipes, wedding recipes, black forest gateaux recipes, and fruit sponge recipes can be a bit more work, but it’s not rocket science just follow the recipe carefully and you’ll be fine, so have funwith your easy cake recipes after all, that’s what it’s all about.
